Dolpo area is hard to match for its surreal beauty and stunning charm. Situated at the rain-shadowed side of the Himalaya, at the western part of the country, and is one of the most remote regions in Nepal, the rugged scenery shows dramatic views of mountain range such as Annapurna , Dhaulagiri Kanjiroba etc. There are no lush green hills fed by monsoon but a thrilling hardcore landscape, guarded by impressive peaks, striving for heaven. The Dolpo region offers visits to ancient and isolated villages that are immortal to time. It provides you with sites of spectacular lakes, authentic Buddhist monasteries and plentiful wildlife (including Blue sheep, mountain goat, jackal, wolf and snow leopard).
It was only opened to trekkers in 1990 Dolpo is restricted area as well where you need to have a special permits to go. Not so many tourists have been in this area. This area is physically hard because of the high passes as well our trek is totally camping. The Himalayan range can be seen in all its splendor and Phoksondo Lake with the Ringmo village provide some of the most beautiful Nepalese scenery. We follow the ancient Tibetan salt caravan route, across two high passes and through the wilderness in one of Nepal’s most remote areas. Though part of Nepal today, Dolpo remains culturally and economically firmly tied to Tibet, the people of this desolate area are cut of from their southern neighbors by snow-covered passes for much of the year. This is fascinating and difficult country to travel in. Most of Dolpi is protected by Shey Phoksumdo National Park.
Phoksundo Lake lake is spectacular, it is 4.8km long, 1.8km wide and said to be 650m deep lies at Dolpo. It is known for its aquamarine color a greenish blue similar to a special Tibetan turquoise .There is no aquatic life in the lake, which helps to make the waters brilliantly clear. If you toss a rock in, you can watch it for a long time as it sinks to the bottom. According to legend, Phoksumdo Lake was formed by a spiteful female demon.
